Chapter 1
Shawn lay staring directly at the ceiling. Had he just kissed Mimi? Had his feelings for her changed into something more than friendship? A jagged smile skirted across his face. “I’m falling for Mimi.” His eyes closed as a picture of her formed in his mind. It was an ending and a beginning for Shawn Douglas Brady and his mind was content to stroll down their recent encounters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Mimi paced from one corner of her room to the next. What was he thinking? God, why did he have to kiss her. She fixated on the memory. His lips were warm and so inviting. “I shouldn’t have allowed that to happen. He was just being nice because I was being a blubbering idiot.” Her body plundered onto her bed. “What was I thinking?”
A sigh floated from her lips as she allowed her mind to wonder back to his word, “…and you’re incredibly worthy of love.” Her heart fluttered. “It’s no use. I’m starting to like Shawn.” Her arms surrounded the pillow and she screamed into her pillow.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
For hours both lay silently in their room, unraveling their unexpected kiss on the rooftop. Still restless, Shawn slipped out to the kitchen and grabbed his jacket. His mind was racing and he just needed to feel the fresh air. He figured that it would clear his head of any uncertainties. He headed straight for the rooftop. As the door screeched open, he saw her gazing up at the stars. “Mimi.” A smile formed on his face. “What are you doing up here?”
“I couldn’t sleep.” Her body started to tremble with butterflies. “You?”
“Me either.” He stated as he closed the gap between them. “I was thinking about you.” He brushed the strand of hair away from her face.
“You were?” Her head tilted and her heart skipped at least three beats.
“Yes, I was.” His eyes captured hers until she thought her knees would buckle. “And our kiss.”
She tuned her head just slightly; afraid he might see her become unnerved. But he quickly stopped her. “It was nice, wasn’t it?”
His eyes searched hers as he held his hand on her face. She couldn’t speak but her head nodded, ‘yes’.
His other hand carefully rose so that her face was cupped in his palms. Sweetly, he placed his lips back on hers. Softly, he grazed her lips then he pulled back to look into her eyes.
This time she spoke, “Could you repeat that?” Her eyes shut and she allowed him to claim them once again.
When they finally pulled away from each other, Mimi could see the incredible grin beaming on Shawn’s face. He couldn’t speak. For the first time in such a long time, he was happy. And his new happiness was thanks to the friend who he was just beginning to see in a whole new light.
