Since Days is so boring now, I started reading fanfiction. I decided to write one. It is not a couple fanfiction. It is focused on Mimi. I would like feedback. Please be gentle though. LOL. Tell me if you see any mistakes. I am terrible at grammar.
Phoenix, Arizona
“Hey Miss, can you hand me, my ball?” the little red headed boy words freed Mimi of her daze. Mimi reached under the park bench and grabbed the ball. She shifted it between her hands.
“What are you playing?” she asked..
“Dodge ball, do you want to play?”
“I am afraid I am little too old.” Mimi smiled at the boy and handed him the ball. The boy hurried back to play. She was thankful for the interruption. Unfortunately, her thoughts drifted back to what Bonnie had told her this morning. Her mom paid Lauren, her surrogate for custody of her baby. The baby that was suppose to be Shawn’s and hers. The thought of the baby brought her to the brink of tears.
“Mimi, I am sorry I am late. The line at the restaurant was crazy.” Natalie, Mimi’s new friend, walked over with a bag full of food. They instantly took a liking to each other and became fast friends. They met at Arizona State University’s registrars office in March. Natalie worked as an academic counselor and helped Mimi through the college process. Thanks to her, Mimi did not have to work two jobs to pay for school.
Natalie saw the tears and asked what was wrong. Mimi confided in Natalie about everything: Her father, Rex, Shawn and the baby. Not once had Natalie judged her. Mimi valued her advise ever since. Now she needed her help with the baby situation.
“I was thinking about that my first baby would be three if I didn’t kill it. He or she would drag me to the park everyday, and they would be so happy just kicking rocks,” she whimpered.
Natalie put the food down on the bench and set beside Mimi.
She reached over to console her. “Why are you crying? I thought you finally found peace with your decision. What happened? You can tell me.”
Mimi repeated her conversation with Bonnie.
Bonnie: I have my sentencing tomorrow. My lawyer told me I probably will get off easy. No more than ten months.
Mimi heard crying in the background. “Mom, what was that? It sounds like a baby.”
Bonnie hesitated for a moment before answering, “ That is Devin, your son.” “My what?” Did I just hear right? she thought.
“Your son, I didn’t want to tell you like this, but I paid Lauren in exchange for custody of your son.”
“You bought my son.”
“And sold him. I exchanged my rights to him for bail money and lawyer expenses. What I didn’t expect was for Lauren to run off eight months pregnant!! She came back last night and gave me the baby. I don’t know why she did it, and she didn’t offer me any answers. Victor is coming tomorrow to get the baby.”
It took a moment for Mimi to digest what her mother just told her. She had a son. A son that would be shuffled around or raised by the Kiriakis. Her last encounter with Philip showed her just how demented they were. She had to get her baby back.
Natalie sat and listened to Mimi. She was not sure how to advise her on what to do next.
Mimi wiped her eyes and looked at the playground. The little red headed boy just been hit by the ball. He fell and scarped his knee. Instinctively, Mimi wanted to run out there and fix him. It helped her make up her mind. She turned to Natalie, “I have a son , and I want to go see him kicking rocks in the park.”

A week had passed since that day at the park. She decided to go to Salem. She packed up most of her things and waited for Natalie to arrive for their last hoorah. She wanted to fight for her baby. She was tired of giving up and running scared. Over the years, she became such a coward. She had been a pushover all her life. Jan, her mom, Belle, Kate, and even Shawn used her insecurities to their advantages. But she vowed to never let that happen again.
She longed for unconditional love. Her son could give her that, but she already messed up with him. She was a screw up, and had to hurry to make things right. Victor would make it a hurdle for her. She and Natalie did some research and found a loop hole that could get Mimi custody of her baby.
The doorbell rang clearing Mimi from her thoughts.
“Hey girl, can I get a hand?” Natalie asked. There were several bags in her hand and on the door step. Mimi picked up the bags asking, “What is all this?”
She responded, “Things for the baby, things for you and lastly thing for the men!”
“Men as in plural?”
Natalie walked over to the couch and sat before answering, “Exactly, you’re 24 and almost divorced. You have to go out and mingle. Don’t settle for the first guy that opens the door for you.”
“I have never settled. I truly loved both Rex and Shawn.”
“If you say so.” Changing the subject, “Do you want to see what’s in the bags?” Mimi nodded. “First for the baby. I got him some cute little outfits. I wanted to be on the safe size so they are all a size six to nine months.” She pulled out three little outfits. One casual, one sporty and the other dressy. “I was going to buy a stroller and car seat, but you can get that in Salem with this gift card.” She retrieved the card from her purse.
“Natalie, this is nice of you, but-”
“No buts! I know how hard it is to be a single mother, and I will do anything to help. If it wasn’t for my aunt, I would be on the streets hopeless.” Natalie became pregnant during her junior year of college. She lost her scholarship when she had to take a semester off of school. She was broke with a baby on the way and a strict father that disowned her. Natalie was not a person to leave anything to chance. She never made one step without analyzing every possible consequence. Her mother died when she was nineteen. Mimi guessed that the depression from the lost of her mother made her vulnerable and caused her to find love in someone else. Therefore, Mimi knew that Natalie needed to do this.
“Thank you for your generosity.”
“No problem. I won 50,000 in Vegas last February. I have the funding if that’s what you are worrying about. I have only spent ten thousand to pay the balance on Aunt Charlotte’s mortgage. I am officially a home owner. As long as I pay the taxes of course.” They laughed. “Are you ready for your presents?”
“Let’s see what you got.”
She pulled out a book and handed it to Meems. It was titled 8 Steps to Becoming a Happy and Independent You. “I read that book and it made me think. The first step towards happiness is to stop being dependent. There comes a time when we as adults have to learn to rely on ourselves instead of others.”
Mimi scanned through the book. “That’s funny. This says that the first step is to admit your weaknesses.”
“My first step was to stop being dependent so I bought this book the minute I saw it. Being independent has its carefree moments. There is no waiting to see what someone else is going to do. If you want to do something, just do it. I have another book for you as well. It’s called, Enjoy the Moments: The World of Sexual Liberation.” Mimi looked at the book.
“This is not me,” she protested.
“It can be the new stronger you. Sex is about control. It can control you, or you can control it. The most important thing is that someone can use it to control you and you can’t let that happen. We, women, should to do like men do. Live for the moment not for a lifetime.”
“I swear if you burst out singing, Ciara’s ‘Like A Boy‘, I will scream.”
“It’s my new theme song, and Samantha from Sex in the City is my new idol. Ever since I read that book, I have stopped second guessing myself.”
“You have. I never noticed,” joked Mimi.
“It’s a slow process,” she rebutted. “Anyways back to the gifts. I saw this cute little sundress in the mall. I had to buy it for you, because they didn’t have it in my size. I figured that if I couldn’t look good in it you could.”
“You’re so thoughtful,” Mimi smarted.
“As for the men, Vicky’s Secrets had a sale.” She pulled out a lavender shear night gown.
“I am surprised it is not raunchy.”
“Ha Ha, very funny. Intimate Boutiques had a going out of business sale, and I got you this hot little number.“ She pulled out a gift box and opened it. “All the butterflies and lace are hand embroidered. This is second wedding night material.”
“It’s gorgeous.” Mimi sat astound by the negligee. It was black chemise made out of silk with rose color butterflies adoring the top and tracing the opening in the middle. “Thank you. You should have kept it for yourself.”
“My hips are too wide and my butt is too big for that one. I got a sexy little number that is just as great. Now all I need is a husband.”
“What happened to living for the moments not for a lifetime?”
“Well, Laila needs a father figure for those teenage years that are coming up. So I figure that I have about four years to find her someone.”
“Every girl needs a daddy,” Mimi muttered gloomily.
“I’m sorry, Mimi. I didn’t mean to-”
“That’s okay. I know you didn’t. Every boy needs a mom too. I can’t wait to see him,” she smiled.
“You can tell from the pictures that Devin is a cutie pie. He probably is twice as adorable in person. So are you excited about seeing, Devin? Devin, now that is a great name.”
“Great suggestion.” The night before her sentencing Bonnie called again. This time for baby names. Apparently, she was not thrilled with Lauren’s choice of Edwin. It was a toss up between Devin and Warren. After a few minutes, they decided to name him Devin Warren Lockhart.
“I am happy and scared. I hate that I missed the first three months, but I am happy that I get to see him now. I just hope Philip doesn’t go off the deep end like he did with Claire.”

“Denied! Are you insane?”
“No, I am not.” Victor Kiriakis replied. He hated to deny family, but it was for the best. He feared that the young man was clever enough to take Titan away from Philip.
“How could you deny your own nephew a seat on the board, but appoint someone like Lucas Roberts….”
His heart turned cold at the memory. He never knew failure until now and hated the feeling. He had accomplished every goal except for getting on Titan‘s board. After receiving the news of his rejection, he recalled the conversation he had heard at a dinner at the Kiriakis mansion. He overheard Patricia and Ben Collins talking about finding a lawyer to take over their practice. When he went home to Dallas, he plotted his next move. He contacted the Collins and submitted his proposal for their practice. He would get what he wanted at any and all costs.
