Chapter 56:
“If you have ever really cared about me, please tell me.” Victoria begged him.
He sighed, sometimes her penchant for hysterics were really tiring, “Victoria, I do care about you. I love you but I can’t, please try and understand.”
“You don’t trust me do you?” She accused “You never trusted me; I was just part of some con to get to my family, to hurt my family. My brother was right about you-”
“Despite what you and your family may think, my entire existence doesn’t revolve around bringing the Brady’s down. I have far more important things to see to right now than fulfilling your family’s pathetic belief that everyone is out to ruin their lives. If they spent half as much time loving each other as they do worrying about what the Dimeras have planned for them, they might actually be happy.”
“How dare you? This is my family you’re talking about.”
“Oh I forgot; the Bradys are untouchable, paragons of virtue. It’s the Dimeras who are responsible for all the bad that happens in this town.”
“What are you saying? Who are you? Where is the man I married, the man I fell in love with?”
“Maybe he never existed; maybe he was just a figment of your imagination. You have such high standards and you expect everyone to live up to them. The minute someone disappoints you they’re out of your life. Well guess what Victoria, I’m done playing your silly games and I’m done living up to some ideal of who and what you think I am. Maybe Shawn was right, maybe you are living in a fantasy world where you think everyone deserves a happy ending but get a clue, life doesn’t work that way. People lie, people steal and they die too, your life isn’t always going to be picture perfect. Why don’t you give me a call when you’ve grown up some; maybe we can talk then.”
“I don’t like you right now, I don’t know how I could ever have thought I loved you.”
Anna watched as her daughter-in-law stormed passed her and out the door, “Why did you do that?”
“Mother, you really should stop listening in on other people’s conversations. What are you doing here by the way?”
“My flight was delayed, I decided to take you up on the offer to fly me home yourself.”
“The jet is always at your disposal, you needn’t ask.”
“Why’d you send that girl away?”
“I got sick of babysitting her, she has to grow up some time and like they say, there’s no time like the present.”
“I don’t believe that any more than you do and I don’t understand why she’d believe it either.”
“The mere fact that she did proves my point.”
“No, the mere fact that she did proves that you hurt her. That girl loves you and with love…” she sighed, hoping she’d be able to get through to him, “Don’t end up like your father and grandfather, don’t be left with nothing. Go after what you want and if that’s your wife, don’t ever give up. Don’t ever let her go.”
“It’s not that simple, there are things between us…”
“It is that simple. Go to her, tell her you’re sorry and tell her you love her. But wait a few hours, much as I love my daughter-in-law, I love my son even more and I want him to live a long life.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“What that means is that if you go to her now, she’ll tear you to shreds. It’s the natural instinct of a wounded animal. To protect itself and of course if you allow her to cool down a bit before approaching her, you won’t have to deal with all the Brady men.”
“It seems no matter where I go; I can’t get rid of the d**n Brady men.”
“I’m telling you dad, the longer she stays in that house, the more like a Dimera she becomes.”
“Chelsea’s been in that house for over a month now and I don’t here you saying the same thing about her.” Bo pointed out, “So much for your theory that the house is evil.”
“She’s at Salem u half the time, all she does is eat and sleep there.”
“And Victoria is at Titan half the time, if you ask me, it’s more her Kiriakis genes that are coming to the fore than anything that could’ve rubbed off Dimera.”
Just then the subject of their conversation walked in looking as though she were on the warpath, “Rough day at work?” Shawn enquired.
“No, rough day in general.” she sat down with them, resting her head against Bo’s shoulder, “I don’t know what’s wrong with me these days, I think I’m too stressed out at work and I have no one to blame but myself.”
“What happened now?”
She sighed, “Luc and I got into a fight.”
“Oh, you poor baby. Imagine that, a married couple actually having a quarrel. Don’t come crying on our shoulders till you’ve reached the point Mimi and I are currently at.” He had no sympathy for her woes, even though he was glad she and Luc had had a fight, he knew they’d probably patch it up within a few hours. They’d been married for five months; the honeymoon stage hadn’t yet passed.
Victoria ignored him, she’d gotten real good at that over the past few months, “It was all my fault.” She complained to her father, “I acted like a spoilt brat and there is no excuse for my behaviour.”
“So why don’t you go and tell him that?” Bo asked.
“And admit I was wrong? Never.”
“Well, it seems he may have the same idea.” Shawn commented, his view of the Pub meant he could see when people entered and Lucien Dimera had just stepped into the Pub.
He walked over to them and greeted them with a nod of the head, he addressed Victoria, “Can we talk?”
“Sure.” she said, staying exactly where she was.
“In private.” He stated.
She sighed, she wasn’t in the mood to apologise now but he was obviously in the mood for an apology. She got up and followed him out, “Before you say anything…” she started but he interrupted her by placing his lips on hers.
“I love you and I’m sorry.” He said when eventually he ended the kiss, “I’d had a rough day and I took my frustrations out on you.
She shook her head, “No, I’m the one who should be apologising. You were right, I acted like a child and there’s no excuse for that expect I had a real crappy day too. And when I heard you on the phone, I just flipped.”
“I do trust you.”
“I know, it just feels as though you’re keeping things from me sometimes. And I hate feeling that way, I hate feeling like there’s this secret between us but it’s what I feel.”
“Victoria, I would never do anything to hurt you. I promise you that.” It would only be much later that she would realise he hadn’t denied the secret.
“If you have ever really cared about me, please tell me.” Victoria begged him.

“Just because she’s taken on her new role at Titan with gusto, doesn’t mean she’s turning into a Dimera Shawn.” Bo commented as he sat opposite Shawn at the Pub.“I’m telling you dad, the longer she stays in that house, the more like a Dimera she becomes.”
