Chapter 53
“So, have you met Chelsea’s new guy yet?” Victoria asked Shawn. She was visiting him at the loft; it seemed they were the only two people in Salem who didn’t have much to do these days. With the patent for his engine and the cheques Titan kept pushing his way, due to the massive success of said engine; Shawn had a lot more free time on his hands these days. He was making lunch; she was leaning against the counter watching. It always amazed her that he knew how to cook, considering their mother couldn’t do much in the kitchen and their dad was even worse.
“Chelsea has a new boyfriend?” he asked, “Must be why I haven’t been seeing her around lately.”
Victoria shook her head, “You are so dense, I now understand why Mimi up and left.”
“Hey!” Shawn objected, they’d reached a compromise recently. He wouldn’t lay in on her choice of husband and she wouldn’t comment on his love life, especially Mimi.
“Sorry, low blow. I just couldn’t resist.” She sent him a smile she knew would get her forgiven, guys were just so easy, especially her brother. “So anyway, about this guy she’s seeing. It turns out, he happens to be an old friend of mine.”
“Your friends are just pooping up everywhere aren’t they?” he asked, referring to the fact that another of her old ‘acquaintances’ had just started at Titan.
“That girl,” she said through clenched teeth, “is not my friend. She’s a blood sucking vampire. And don’t think I didn’t see the way she flirted with you, you should stay away from her; she eats guys like you for breakfast.”
Shawn burst out laughing, “So, about Chelsea’s boyfriend?”
“Oh, Nicholas? Yeah, they’re getting pretty serious. I never imagined I’d see the day when Nicholas Alamain got all mushy, but then again when we were hanging out, he was in the ‘girls are gross’ stage.”
“Did you say Nicholas Alamain?” Shawn asked her, frowning.
She nodded, “Yeah, you heard of him?”
“We used to be friends too, till he went off to Europe with his parents.”
“I knew him before I left for New York; he was being cared for by an absentee ‘mom’ at the time.”
“Right, Vivian Alamain. But the thing is, he came back to Salem a few years back, and if my memory is correct, had a relationship with both Billie as well as Kate.”
Tory frowned, “A relationship? Are you sure?”
Shawn nodded, “Absolutely sure.”
“Do you think maybe we should tell Chelsea this?”
“No.” Shawn stated with absolute certainty, “If she needs to find out, better it not come from us.”
“I’m sorry, I forgot who I was talking to; you’re the guy who couldn’t even tell his wife that his ex-girlfriend was still pining for him. You’ll have to excuse me if I don’t take your advice; you’re not really in a position to be giving any.”
“Victoria believe me, this is something Chelsea does not need to find out about from. My history with telling the truth aside, do you really think she’s going to appreciate the truth, especially when it comes from someone who wasn’t even here?”
Victoria smiled, “That’s why you’re going to be the one to tell her.” She informed him.
He shook his head, “Oh no, you’re not dragging me into this mess.”
“Shawn!” If she thought it would work, she’d have stomped her foot too.
“You, Victoria, my dear sister, have got to stop interfering in other people’s lives. Stay out of this.” He warned as he got out plates from the cabinet.
“I cannot believe this! Can my life get any worse?” she asked as she stormed into the office.
Kate and Nick turned to her, shock written across both their faces and just a hint of guilt across Nick’s. “Chelsea,” Kate scolded, “you cannot just come barging in here anytime you feel like it!”
“I can when you’re talking about having sex with each other!” she shouted at Kate.
“And how is that your business?” Kate asked.
“Do you want to tell her, or should I?” Chelsea asked Nick.
“Tell me what?” Kate was getting tired of her granddaughter’s penchant for hysterics. The girl seemed to thrive on it.
“Chelsea and I are seeing each other, socially.”
“No,” Chelsea corrected him, “we were seeing each other socially.”
“Just because I had relationships with your mother and…”
“My MOTHER? You slept with my mother too?” she asked outraged.
“Chelsea…”
“No, if it had been my best friend I might have been able to handle that but not my…Ugh…I can’t even say it and my head is spinning just thinking it.”
“It was a long time ago. I have a rather colourful past, you knew that.”
“Yeah, I just didn’t think it was so colourful that it included members of my own family.” When he moved forward, she backed away, “Don’t touch me, I need to think. I need to think away from you.”
“Come on, this is childish and you know it. There’s nothing to think about.”
“Oh you’re wrong about that, so wrong.”
“Where will you be? In case I need to get in contact with you?”
“I don’t think that’d be necessary…”
“Oh I disagree, despite our personal issues; we’re still conducting business together. I may need to get a hold of you…”
“You can’t seriously think…”
“I do.” He stated.
Kate had recovered by this time, having caught up with the gist of the conversation, “Chelsea is you want-”
“I don’t want anything form you!” Chelsea screamed at her, “Nothing do you hear? I don’t even want you saying my name. I have to get out of here, looking at the two of you makes me sick.” She stormed out.
“She’ll come around, once you’ve explained…”
But Nicholas shook his head, “I should have told her as soon as I found out who she was. This should’ve been dealt with long ago.” And now he feared, it was all too late.

If they had known about events that were unfolding across town, Shawn and Tory would have been less worried about telling Chelsea and more about comforting her. Because she’d just found out the truth, from none other than her own grandmother. It was by chance of course, overhearing the conversation that transpired between Nick and Kate. It explained why Kate had deferred all dealings with Nick to her, why she was reluctant to even be in the same room. “I cannot believe this! Can my life get any worse?” she asked as she stormed into the office.
