Chapter 49:
“Have you found out where they’re living yet?” Shawn asked Hope when he dropped in to the police station the next day.
“No, I haven’t spoken to her yet. And I’d dearly love to meet my son-in-law.”
Bo walked in with the folder they had all been waiting for, “Hope, you’d never guess where our daughter is currently residing.”
“Dad, have you found out what this guy’s all about yet?” Shawn asked Bo as he put the folder down; he picked it up and started reading.
“Haven’t had a look at it yet,” Bo explained, “I just got a call from one of the uniforms watching the Dimera mansion. Victoria was spotted on the grounds.”
“That doesn’t make sense, what would she be doing there, unless they bought the place.”
Just then Roman stormed in, “Bo, Hope, I need to see you in my office now.”
His parents walked off, leaving Shawn with the profile on Lucien Fredericks. From what he could see, the guy was legit, extensive business interests across the globe. Enough money to run a small country, no criminal record. He was shocked to see who his birth mother was and made a mental note to talk to his mom about it, then his eye caught on something else, something far more serious. And suddenly he knew why Tory had been spotted at the Dimera mansion, she was married to one. “Like hell, I’m getting her out of there now!”
He dropped the folder onto the desk and took off.
He pulled her out of the house and marched her towards his car. “I’m getting you out of here; it’s not safe for you to be here.”
She tried pulling her arm out of his grasp, but his hold only tightened. “What are you talking about? I’m perfectly safe here, no ones going to harm me Shawn.”
“You’re living in the Dimera mansion Victoria; I’d hardly call that being safe.” He said as he dragged her protesting towards the car.
“Well I would, considering it’s my home, where my husband lives.” She had to run to keep up with him, “Shawn, you’re hurting me.”
“Your husband? You’re married to a Dimera Victoria. I don’t give a fig about you ‘husband’. Where’s you family loyalty? After all the Dimeras have done to our family?” had he been looking at her, he’d have seen the look of confusion that crossed her face, she was about o correct him when he stopped and turned to her, “How do you think our family’s going to react to this?”
“My loyalty is with my husband Shawn,” she didn’t know what he was on about with the Dimeras, but she’d had enough, “as yours should be with your wife. But obviously that isn’t the case, so don’t harp on me about family loyalty when you don’t know the meaning of the word.”
“This is not about Mimi and myself. This is about you, swearing allegiance to the Dimeras.” he shouted at her.
She shouted back, “I have not sworn allegiance to the Dimeras, what do you think this is, the Middle Ages?”
“What were you thinking? Were you trying to hurt us, your family?”
“Shawn, regardless of what you think of it, the reality is I am married. I’ve taken on my husband’s name and I’d expect you to respect that fact.”
“No, you’re a Brady and no matter who you marry, you’ll always be a Brady. You have Brady blood running through your veins.”
“No I don’t, and neither do you.”
“Is the sex really that good?” he didn’t know where it had come from but it was out of his mouth before he could stop it. The slap he received moments later, had him seeing stars for a while, “I deserved that I suppose.”
“You suppose? Leave now Shawn before things start getting ugly.”
“You’re willing to stay here,” he asked her incredulous, “after knowing everything the Dimera’s have done to the Bradys? To you in particular?”
“To me? Do you know what they’ve done for me? They’ve given me two parents Shawn, two parents who couldn’t love me more if I was their own. That’s what they’ve given me.”
Shawn grabbed her by the shoulders, was about to shake her, shake some sense into her. When someone behind him stated coldly, “Take your hands off my wife.” Shawn turned to find a Dimera he had never met. “Out of courtesy to your sister, I’m going to refrain from having you thrown off this property, but be advised Shawn Brady, if you ever disturb my wife again, you’ll have me to deal with.”
“Is that a threat Dimera?”
“Shawn!” Victoria begged him to back off; the last thing she wanted was a fight between the two of them.
“No Brady, I don’t make threats, that was a promise. Now please leave.”
Shawn turned to his sister, “You can still come with me…”
“Don’t you get it? I’m happy Shawn; I’m here because I’m happy. Please, just go.”
“You think this is all romantic, that he’s your modern day Romeo. But be careful you don’t suffer the same fate sister because they never lived happily ever after. They died.” He stormed off, away from the couple standing there in stony silence.
She waited till she was sure Shawn’s car had pulled away before turning to her husband, “Is Shawn right? Are you a Dimera?”
“Technically, yes.” He stated.
“Technically?” she asked confused.
“My dad’s a Dimera so I guess that makes me one too; but then again you know my history.”
“When exactly were you planning on telling me?”
He gave her a blank look, “Telling you what?”
“That you were a Dimera.” she almost shouted, “You know the history between our families; did you think it wouldn’t matter?”
“Now wait a minute, are you telling me it does? That my father, a man I haven’t even met, someone I don’t even know is going to influence our relationship? Are you serious?”
“That’s not what I meant. I just thought that knowing what was done to me and my family by the Dimeras, you would’ve filled me in on the fact that you were one yourself.”
“Victoria, I don’t even think of myself as one half the time. It wasn’t something I was brought up knowing, it was something I only discovered recently. If I didn’t tell you it was because it didn’t seem important. My father’s last name does not affect the person I am.”
“I know that Luc but still, you know what Stephano Dimera did, I feel as though you should have told me.”
“Would it have affected the way you felt about me? Has it affected -”
“No! No, don’t even think that. I love you and your last name isn’t going to change that.”
“But if you had known in the beginning, you wouldn’t have pursued a relationship with me would you?”
“Honestly, if I had known from the very beginning, I would have run in the opposite direction.”
“So it’s a good thing you didn’t know then.”
“Yes it is. I just wish that you would’ve been the one to tell me.”
“I would have, eventually.”
As they walked back to the house, Victoria couldn’t help the feeling of unease that settled over her. That one word, ‘eventually’, told her quite a lot. It told her that he didn’t quite trust her and part of her could understand why. But it didn’t hurt any less because it meant he was unsure of her and for the first time she wondered if she hadn’t made a mistake. She squeezed his hand and he smiled down at her reassuringly. She didn’t feel reassured, she felt dread, because if he could keep a secret like this from her, what else was he hiding?
“By the way, who is your father?” she asked, her curiosity piqued.
“Anthony Dimera.”
“Have you found out where they’re living yet?” Shawn asked Hope when he dropped in to the police station the next day.

“Shawn, what the…” Victoria was surprised to see Shawn on the other side of the door, she was even more surprised when he grabbed her arm.He pulled her out of the house and marched her towards his car. “I’m getting you out of here; it’s not safe for you to be here.”
