Chapter 14
Victoria prayed Mimi would answer. The phone had been ringing for ages and she wasn’t sure as to the time of her appointment. Finally, after the tenth ring, Mimi answered, “Hello.”
“Mimi, oh thank God you answered. I really need someone to talk to and I can’t call my parents in London, because I’m calling form work and Rex is at work, so he’s unreachable. You’re the next person I thought of.”
Mimi, who had just stepped in the apartment, had a hard time keeping up as Victoria rattled on. She’d never heard her this anxious before. “Okay Tory, take a deep breath.” She waited till she heard Victoria exhale, before continuing, “now, tell me what’s wrong and do it slowly.”
“Everything. Everything’s wrong, my life is ruined; I’m going to burn in hell for what I’ve done. How could I have been so stupid? I wasn’t thinking. That’s bad; I’m bad and all messed up when I don’t think things through. It’s all Max’s fault, I stop thinking when I’m around him; I have to stay away from him. Oh God.”
“Victoria, calm down and tell me what happened. I can’t help you unless you tell me what’s bothering you.”
“No one can help me, I slept with him. I slept with Max, last night.”
“That much I’d already figured, what I don’t get is why you’re going to burn in hell for it.”
“He’s my Uncle! I slept with my uncle! I’m sick and demented and we both belong in mental institutions, preferably ones far apart, so we’re not tempted.”
“It was that good huh?”
“Mimi, I called you for help. Not to joke about this. It isn’t funny, I’m dying here.”
“Relax. Everything’s fine. Legally Max is your uncle, biologically there’s no blood relation. Max is adopted Victoria, he’s not a Brady and is in no way related to you by blood.”
“So you’re saying…Oh thank the heavens for that, I was so close to having myself committed. So I didn’t do anything wrong?”
“No.”
“But still, he is my uncle.”
“Yes, but you didn’t grow up together. You’ve never thought of him as that, so you’re not sick and demented and you don’t have to be committed.”
“I really need to get a family tree, know exactly who is and isn’t related to me.”
“The best way to do that is to meet your family. You’ll have to do it sometime.”
“I know. Look, I have to go. My boss is staring daggers at me; I’ll see you at lunch.”
“Seems like I’m getting visits from all my boys today.”
“Really? Well, I’m just here to pick up the lunch Hope ordered. We’re working through lunch today.”
“Roman was in here this morning for breakfast, and Max stepped through the doors a few minutes ago, he should still be here.” She scanned the Pub and spotted him sitting at a corner table getting friendly with the girl he’d walked in with. “Ah, there he is, although he seems to be busy at the moment.”
Bo followed her gaze and saw his brother; he couldn’t see the girl he was with from that angle. Max’s head was obstructing his view. He’d heard, through Chelsea that max was seeing someone, she hadn’t been too happy about it but he was glad she was getting over it. The last thing he needed right now was ore dramatics from one Miss Chelsea Benson. He turned back to his mother, “Look mom, Hope and I have some news, something that concerns the family. I know it’s a bit short notice, but could we all meet here for dinner tonight?”
“Sure Bo, no problem. It’s been a while since the family got together, I’ll call everybody up. Why don’t you go and tell your brother.”
“Thanks mom.”
Before Bo could make his way across the pub, Shawn walked in the door, “Hey dad.”
He turned to his son, “Shawn, just the person I wanted to see. Where’s Mimi?”
“Mimi will be in soon, she ran into her mother outside. They haven’t seen each other for a while, so they’re catching up.”
“How long is a while?”
Shawn laughed, “Almost a week. So what did you want to see me about?”
“Well, it’s really your mother who wants to have a chat with you. We’re having a family dinner here tonight, telling the family about your sister and everything. If you and Mimi are able, why don’t you guys drop by you mother can talk to you then. Speaking of your mother,’ He glanced at his pager, “I better get back to the station you know how much your mom loves food.” He walked over to the bar to collect his order while Shawn scanned the room for Max and Victoria. “By the way Shawn, be sure to invite Max along, and tell him to bring along his new girlfriend, the family would like to meet her.” Bo patted his son on the back before leaving the pub.
“You have no idea how right you are about that dad, no idea at all.” Finally spotting them, Shawn made his way over to the table. “Is that all you guys ever do?”
They broke apart, Victoria blushing. Being busted by your brother twice on the same day was really embarrassing. “So…” she glanced behind him, “Where’s Mimi?”
“Out front, she’ll be in any minute.” Sitting down, Shawn watched the other two people at the table, then addressed Max, “By the way, there’s a family dinner here tonight. My dad said to bring your new girlfriend along. Apparently our parents,” he was talking to Victoria now, “are ready to announce you existence to the family.”
Victoria took a deep breath and let it out slowly, if she didn’t she might start just hyperventilating. Meeting her family, was she ready for that? Yes, yes she was. Talking to Max last night had helped a lot and her talk with Mimi earlier in the day had helped too. “Okay.”
Both men at the table stared at her shocked, Max was at a loss for words. He’d figured she’d need a couple more days at least, maybe weeks even. Shawn hadn’t lost his tongue however, “Are you sure?”
She nodded, “Yes, I have to do this, and the longer I put it off, the more nervous I’ll be. Besides I met your grandmother, she seems really nice.”
“She is but are you sure you want to meet all of them at once? My aunt Kayla and cousin Stephanie are in town too, they got in last night. So it’s going to be a hell of a crowd, almost full house in fact.”
“I’m sure Shawn. Only, could you and Mimi make your announcement too? Take some of the attention off of me?”
“I’ll see what I can do.”
Max, having lost the conversation glanced at Shawn, “What announcement?”
“You’ll just have to come tonight and find out.”
Victoria prayed Mimi would answer. The phone had been ringing for ages and she wasn’t sure as to the time of her appointment. Finally, after the tenth ring, Mimi answered, “Hello.”

“Hey mom,” Bo leaned over the bar and gave his mother the kiss she was expecting. “How are things?”“Seems like I’m getting visits from all my boys today.”
