I just wanted to share this letter from a fan from Boston she wrote.
No New Life for Days' Shelle
There are no words to do justice to the powerful performances of Days of our Lives' Kristian Alfonso and Peter Recell over the loss of Bo and Hope's beloved son Zach. It's truly heart-wrenching to watch these two as they suffer the loss of their baby. However, there are also no words to describe the outrage over the direction this story has taken.
Instead of focusing solely on the Brady family and their grief, viewers are forced to endure the repeated notion that Zach's death is Claire's "miracle." That somehow not only are Bo, Hope, and Shawn supposed to find comfort and solace in Claire's survival, but the viewers are, as well. We don't---and the-powers-that-be have seriously misjudged their audience by believing that would happen.
Zach represented all that is beautiful and special about Bo and Hope's relationship. Even when it was believed that Zach wasn't Bo's biological son, it didn't matter. He was their son in every way. And then to find out he truly was Bo's was a miracle!
Claire? She is a plot point whose sole purpose is to extend the Shawn/Belle relationship, once filled with promise but now so damaged it's toxic. These two are no good for each other. If nothing else Claire's illness and Zach's death have highlighted all that is wrong with Shawn and Belle as a couple. The one-sided nature of Shelle is again being showcased, with Shawn giving and Belle taking. Instead of grieving with his family, Shawn once again had to comfort Belle during his time of loss.
By trading Zach for Claire, Days has succeeded in creating a huge backlash against these characters. Outside of those hardcore Shelle fan base, most viewers are outraged. They have not created sympathy for Belle/Claire/Shawn, but bitter resentment.
Amen to that! I know I couldn't have said it any better!
