I'm actually pretty confused by their answers. I'll put the questions/answers that pertain to Shimi in bold.
Question : DAYS has always been known for its supercouples. Who do you see as the next Bo and Hope?
Answer : Sami and Lucas are in that world. Shawn and Belle... Jack and Jennifer. Once I open that can of worms, I should name three or four others But those three certainly come to mind.
Question : DAYS has been wildly succesful with some of its more outlandish plots. Do you feel pressure to come up with something bigger and crazier?
Answer : Right now, the choice on my part and [headwriter] Jim Reilly's part is not to go where the audience expects us to go. In the next year, we will tell more traditional sotirs that wild plts. The show will return to a completely emotionally romantic-based storytelling as opposed to what I call castles and islands and mass murders and buzzers and gongs. The reason for that is: a) the audience wants that having been taken through so many twists and turns and b) because it's unexpected.
Question : How important is viewer feedback?
Answer : It's vital. We read every fan letter. My mother's credo was that every fan letter represents thousand viewers, so feedback is of great importance. Sometimes we know we are leading fans along and expect certain [reactions]. Sometimes we change, based on audience reaction, when they don't like a couple we seem to be forcing on them.
Question : What is your vision of Salem as if heads into the next 40 years?
Answer : Hopefully, my daughters will be taking care of things and I'll be able to be a happy grandfather. As far as Salem goes, the adage her is, you can't reinvent the wheel. This show is not broken and does not need to be fixed. So it just has to continue to sail on the somewhat wonderfully blissful fated course it's on.
Question : What about Belle and Shawn? Are the finito?
Answer : Never. He'll always love her, and she'll always love him. However, choices were made.
Question : So Mimi has a real shot with Shawn?
Answer : Yes, she certainly does. Friend first, lovers next.
Question : In other words, anything can happen. What can fans look forward to in '06?
Answer : A show that has started to tell, and wll return more and more to, emotion-driven stories. Him [Reilly, our headwriter] knows how to play those cards as well as anyone. Our decision together is to go with what's always worked.
Question : Is there any piece of history you'd like to rewrite because it interfers with a story you'd like to tell?
Answer : The goal is to not rewrite history. Sometimes bending the truth is necessary to propel a story forward or to have is make sense. There is always a way to tell a story that you really want to tell.
